Based on a story by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Sherlock Holmes (Basil Rathbone) has been hired by Lady Carstaires (Mary Forbes) to protect The Star of Rhodesia diamond after an attempt is made in London. Holmes decides that the next attempt will take place on the train from London to Edinburgh. While on the train, Holmes and Lady Carstaires switch the original for a fake. Shortly after,Lady Carstaires'son Roland(Geoffrey Steele) is found murdered and the "diamond" is gone. Holmes,helped by Dr. Watson (Nigel Bruce) and Inspector Lestrade (Dennis Hoey) have to determine which of the other passengers on the train is a murderer and a thief |
