Larry 'Lonesome' Rhodes (Andy Griffith) is in Arkansas who is discovered by radio executive Marcia Jeffries (Patricia Neal). Captivated by the smooth-talking, folksy persona Rhodes has, she gets him a job as a radio personality at a local station. This serves to be the start of a meteoric rise to television star and eventual political kingmaker, but Jeffries soon discovers that she and all of his fans are being duped by Rhodes, who hides a dark and scary reality to his persona as a likable oaf. |
