We have moved on from our original 2016 Anet A8 to an Artillery Sidewinder X1 v4.
The A8 (build volume 220x220x220mm, 8″x8″x8″) was purchased as a budget machine and produced good prints, so no real complaints. There were a few safety measures that needed to be done – hardwiring the heat bed wires due to overheating and installing Marlin firmware to enable thermal runaway protection. It is definitely a tinkerer’s machine, but you should not expect premium performance or components on a budget printer. It came as a kit and took about 6 hours to assemble and get to first print.
The Sidewinder X1 is a 2020 v4 model and is a large format (build volume 300x300x400mm, 12″x12″x15″) FDM printer. It came in a few modules and took about 20 minutes to assemble and get to first print.
